Just wanted to thank Mr. Delmonico for his excellent series of posts regarding hat shaping.  I had an old Stetson 6X cattleman I bought years ago on clearance, but my lovely bride hated it, so I forgot about it.

I found it in my closet and filled up the teakettle and unleashed my imagination.

In about 20 minutes, I had removed the factory crease, flattened the brim, and rounded the crown.  From there, it was easy to shape in four creases, making a fair representation of a Montana peak style.  After the form met with satisfaction, I let it dry, then sprayed it with hat stiffener I bought at Murdochs.

Well, maybe my wife still doesn't like it, but she stays at home while I shoot CAS!

When I can figure out how to post a photo on this forum, I will display my new hat.  Since I shoot the holy black, it is already getting "seasoned" right well!

Thanks again Delmonico!

 Hi

I started out with this 20x Resistol (according to the label):

Hatman Jack and I attempted a John Wayne / Ford Cavalry Hat, but there just wasn't enough crown, so Jack made me a boss of the plains:

I have plain ole leather stampede string with a Deer Horn to hold it on.  I like the way it looks, but it hasn't gotten much wear yet.

Later Y'all   ;D
