This just grabs me.

The bore on the replacement 44cal 1858 Army cylinder of my Peitta (that I got from Cabelas) is WAY oversized.

A .451" ball DROPS into it. A .452" bullet also DROPS into it.

The replacement cylinders for my 1860 Army Piettas are TIGHT and a .451" ball and Lee connical SIT on top of them. (the conical base goes in, but, the nose and first lube ring are well outside of it)

Did something change recently, or, are these just bad cylinders for some reason?

Have you with measured them all with dial calipers? The ollder Pietta cyl. I have are .446".  Uberti are .450" the Uberti cyl. is shorter than a Pietta and will work in a Pietta. Actually if the cyl. you have overize chambers oversize to .450", then you can use a .454" or .457" ball. And with a .450" groove dimension to a .450" chamber you should be very happy with the results. That probly don't help you with having multiple cylinders, but it should improve the accuracy greatly. If the cylinder is about 2.018" it's Pietta, under 2.0" Uberti.

One other thing if you ordered a Pietta "Shooters" Model cylinder or they sent you one by mistake they measure .456" diameter chambers...just a thought.

I don't know but have been told Pietta has new tooling. So if Pietta has read report in certain forums about they're too small chambers(i.e. reaming chambers) they may have changed them.  Now if Uberti would only change the groove dimension from .458" to ,450"

Just call them and send it back for a replacement and have them check before shipping, give um the dimensions...they are very good with replacements at Cabelas.

SG-

Yup... something is fishy with this spare cylinders. Both of my original Pietta cylinders are right at .448", this one is HUGE at .453", as a propperly sized .452" bullet just slides in.

Kinda infuriating. Its going back to Cabelas.

I am going to order 3 new cylinders from the local Cabelas and check them all before buying.

That's probly for the Pietta's "Shooters" model...normally .456" chambers. Exchange it or get some .457" balls...and you'll problty like it.
I'm tempted to trade you a new one for it.

I just returned it back to Cabelas.

Their new ones on the shelf are all with the smaller chamber...

Picked up a couple of those and have not looked back.

The Pietta's 1858 appear to be fairly accurate with the Lee conical bullet. (far as I can tell)
