Kirst Konverters don't lock up like original cap-n-ball cylinders do...

Well, I noticed this before, but, with the new cylinder pins in the guns, I am scratching my head more than ever.

With the factory cap cylinders, the guns lock up nice when you pull the handle. No rotation of the cyilinder hardly at all.

With the Kirst Konverters installed, in both guns, there is about 1/16th inch of rotational play with the hammer cocked.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why...

BTW, new cyilinder pins make ALL the difference in the world. (Thanks VTI!!!)

It`s not just the Kirst cylinders that don`t lock up tight ... my R&D drop in is the same way .. just a little play side to side and none with the cap and ball cylinder. I think its some thing to do with the notches .. on my cap and baller the notches are much deeper and wider .. they are pretty shallow and narrow on the R&D.Only difference i can see.

Yup Sundance nailed it. The Notches, bet if you measure them and then the bolt, then the C&B notches. It will tell you the story. Had and do have some C&B Revs that do that also.

I have both a pair of Kirst and R & D conversion cylinders.  Mine are Uberti and they lock up okay, but there is more to the story.  I had a pair of 8" Remmies for C & B.  I decided I needed a pair of the 5 1/2" and I wanted to shoot BP cartridges in them so I also ordered a pair of Kirst cylinders.  Well, one cylinder and gun worked well.  The other would lock up big time.  I sent the gun back to Midway (great people) and they sent me a replacement.  No help.  Sent the cylinder to Walt Kirst and he did something and sent it back.  No help.  Took it to my 'smith.  He fiddled with it and thought it was the cylinder.  Wait, there is more.  I sent the offending cylinder to the vendor, Buffalo Arms in Ponderay, Idaho.  They sent me a new one.  They are also terrific to do business with.  Well, it was no help so I ordered two R & D cylinders from Midway.  They work just great!  Now, the irony.  I put the Kirst cylinders in the 8" Remmies and they love each other!  What a journey.  Over 15 months.
