I read an something in a American Rifleman magizine about the front and rear sights on the H&R buffalo rifle not being SASS legal ... oh boy now what .. the rifle is selling at a good price .. now whats it gonna take to shoot the thing in SASS side matches ? another 3 hundred bucks ... haha .. anyone have any ideas on putting some afforadable sights on these rifles that are SASS approved ?

The insert on the rear sight is not SASS legal.  An open type can be installed in the base.  As far as the front sight, the author was wrong.

Yep. I've got a Lyman 17A on the front of mine. When I got mine about 7 or so years ago, they didn't come with any sights. I went with the 17A front and got a set of Lee Shaver inserts to go in it. I put a Taylor's muzzle loader vernier on it, but would love to have one of the Smith ladder types.......Buck 8) ::) ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Thinkin' I might get mine back tomorrow.

'Round here a hundred yards is long range.  Rarely shoot anywhere else.  I'm havin' the barrel dove tailed for a standard Marble's rear sight I snatched off a Marlin.  Let y'all know how it werks out when I get it back.

All I did was name it 'n get it started. The posse made it great. A debt I can never repay. Thank you, mi amigos.

The aperture sight on the Buff Classic can be removed and replaced with an open blade sight from Brownells.  Can't remember if the sight is a Marbles, or a Williams. (Williams, I think).  Inserts run less than 10 bucks or so, and you still have windage and elevation adjustment.

Mounting a tang sight to this rifle can be a core, as there is no tang.  Some folks have a tang welded or silver soldered/brazed on the back of the receiver, some inlet the tang into the wood of the stock wrist.

The Smith ladder sight looks good, is authentic, and is made to fit the sight screws on the barrel, and its about half the price of a good tang sight - plus, no "work" involved.

I can't speak fer certain to the buf classic, but I've got an ole H&R shikari, which is very close ta' the b.c.  I found a Krag rear ladder sight for $25. I been told it's a 98 an' also an 02.  It fit the barrel contour perfectly. Has windage adjustment  I hadta' drill & tap a couple holes.  It works fine for my use and looks period.  Had a guy at the range ask me why I "wasted a Buffington on such a cheap rifle." Then he looked closer.  YMMV, but it works for me, price was right, an' don't look bad.
