Since we all know that Uberti is to soon bring out a '58 Remmy conversion w/ percussion cylinder it only goes to say that it will probably hurt R&D & Kirst Remmy cylinder sales. So, when you have stiff competition such as that I would think that it would be a splendid idea for R&D or Kirst to bring out a CORRECT (read thin back plate) '58 conversion for us "hard core" traditionalists who want the real deal. Find the "niche".

Kid,....ya know, I remember when you mentioned this awhile back, and I went to the Uberti website and saw a pic with a short write-up about this new '58 Rem Conversion being made. It looked nice, with the ejector rod made in the manner of the originals. Well, now when I go to their site,...there's a new layout, with flash player "new product tour",........but there's NO mention of any soon to be available '58 Rem conversion.

Do you know if they've changed their minds, or am I not looking thoroughly enough within their web-site to find any mention of it?

Maybe they got into some kinda copyright infringement problem.

Sure would be nice to get one of them .58 Rem conversions chambered in .44-40,....with an extra cyl. in .44Spl.

Oldelm, if the .44REM conversion were more readily available would you prefer the .44-40 to it? Less work to make cartridges? Would you have to use the .44REM boolit?

Howdy Smokin,.....if what you mean by .44Rem conversion, is a '58Rem replica (preferably an Armi San Poalo with its tight groove dia), with the Kirst .44Colt/Rem conversion cyl.,....well, that's hard to say, because I still haven't located a Kirst .44Colt/Rem conversion cyl. yet,   ...so I haven't had a chance to get aquainted with shootin the historical 248gr heeled bullet in the .44Colt case,...so I can't  attest to their accuracy. I don't want to give up on that project, though,...cause I got everything else needed to do that,.....the248gr heeled bullet mould from Bernie, the modified Lee Factory Crimp die  for crimpin them buggers (sized to .451),...and the Euroarms '58 Rem with .450 groove dia. I think it'd be alot of fun shootin them outside-lubricated heeled bullet .44cartridges. The thing is though, is that the Kirst .44 Rem cyl. is made to chamber the .44Colt cartridge, with .44cal size bullets ,  intended to be fired through the .44 cal barrel (approx. .428-.430 groove dia.),...but the heeled bullet allows for the larger dia. drive bands on it to engage the rifling on a .450 dia bore,...therefore making them usable in the regular .45 size bore of the  '58 Remington Replicas.

now,...as for the .44-40 caliber...........it was this Ken Howell conversion I got that hooked me on the .44-40

I just love shootin that .44-40 Rem. I've heard that the .44-40 shoots a flater trajectory than the .45Colt.  It's a 5-shot because the cyl. wouldn't handle 6 chambers of the .44-40,..or at least Ken Howell didn't think it should.  There's some good , historically accurate bullets to use in the .44-40. One is the Lyman #427098,....and I get best groups with it using 22gr (by weight) of 777ffg. Those cartridges in the pic are loaded with the 200gr Mav Dutchman Big Lube bullet,....but the Lyman 427098 gives me better groups....with Goex BP or 777ffg. Maybe  I could get a .44spl cylinder for the .44-40 Howell Rem, and then could also shoot .44Colt & 44Russian cartridges in it. So that would make it pretty versatile,...by swapping cyls.........more fun !    It has .429 groove dia,....

One thing I'm not sure about , though, is whether a 5-shot cyl. is interchangable with a 6-shot cyl. in the same gun. Seems like they might not. I don't know enough about the lockworks to figure that one,...does anyone else know? I know the 1875 Remingtons can be chambered in .44 cal and have interchangable cylinders in .44-40 and .44spl,......both 6 -shot cylinders. But maybe since the '58 Rem is a bit smaller,...in order to chamber  in .44-40 it had to be 5-shot,...not 6.
