Is it always necessary to retime a pistol after replacing the hand? The hand on the Bisley broke while I was dry firing the other night and I would like to replace it myself but am concerned about the timing. Thanks as always.  Hawken

I'm NOT a gunsmith or an expert, nor do I play one on TV. ::)

Can you epoxy or otherwise put the pieces back together?  If so, you can compare the old one with the new replacement.  Yes, timing issues do surface when a "hand" is changed out.  If you measure with calipers you'll at least have a starting point to work with.

Doc,
Yes, you will ALMOST always have timing issues when replacing the hand. This is not for the timid. Sometimes you have to shorten, sometimes you have to stretch. DO NOT EPOXY! Dumb idea, Steel Horse! Yes, you can replace the hand yourself. If you're lucky, it will be acceptable. Take it to your smith if it isn't right.

Burt --

I knew a guy once who could stretch your hand.  Never shake hands with one of them.
What's a hand stretcher look like ??

Perhaps my meaning didn't come thru clear enuff.  I said to epoxy the parts together, not to USE THE PART, only to be able to measure and compare the measurement with the new replacement part.  Which I DID say in my original post.

Yep,even if you only hold the old parts up to the new one,it gets you miles ahead of just ''fileing and stoneing reassemble, file and stone again, buy a new one...''

Steel Horse Bailey,

Your post and suggestion made perfect sense.  And is a way to regain the original measurements on small broken parts.

No need to re-explain your well-meant intention.
