Matching a rifle and shotgun to my New Model Armies (sass shooting)

Well ya'll have talked me into using my Ne model Armies when shooting in SASS. Now all I need is to match a rifle and shotgun to my outfit. The rifle that I lean towards is a 1966 Winchester replica. Since I am trying to portray a Discharged Confederate Calvary soldier....... the choice of a shotgun is leaving stumped.... Any sugesstions??

The shot gun part of the outfit .. is the part that seems to stump us all , i own 4 remmies now and a remmie copy derringer .. last year i was trying to figure out if i wanted a henery rifle or a winchester ..and while i was thinking out loud , my wife bought me a marlin cowboy in 45colt  for christmas ....i bought a stoger uplander 12 ga  sxs shot gun with dubble triggers and 26 inch barrels .. after much thinking i did want the 26 inch barrels because i load and shoot brass shells loaded with the holy black , and i might do a little bird hunting durning the winter months , i figure i can use this one mulit purpose for now and one day the right muel eared 12 will come my way when i least expect it .one thing to consider in doing yer shot gun shopping  ..is do you or are you planning to reload your own shells .. if so i would strongly suggest you sway toward a side by side instead of the pumps .. home loads won`t feed well in a pump , could be lots of problems .and if you shoot the holy black the sxs is much easyer to clean . I always thought of the shotgun as being a sodbusters tool .. but i suppose maybe we all have a little sodbuster in us . good luck happy hunting .

I agree that the Model 66 is the right choice for a rifle to go with those Remmies. I have a Stoeger Uplander like Sundance44 except it's a single trigger one. I don't like the single trigger and would recommend the double trigger. I intend to pick up one of the new Remington coach guns one of these days. I think they're made by Baikal but they're supposed to be a good SxS. For your period, you'd want to stay away from the pumps and levers and go with a SxS double, anyway. I don't know how early they made the hammerless models, but maybe someone here will be able to provide that information.

I am having this same problem, I came up with the Alias of a Georgia Partisan Ranger Just after the end of the Civil War. Personally I am looking for a good quality Mule Eared sxs 12 ga. I would love a Hennery 1860 but 1k for a riffle that I would use only for SASS is a bit much. Same goes for the 1866. I was hopping the revolving cylinder Carbine would get the nod from the SASS but no such luck. Personally at the ranges that we shoot at in SASS, I would prefer to just use another set of revolvers. But that too was a no go. What is an old confederate to do? Let me know what you decided on.

I have a TTN double barrel that I really like.  It is a double trigger, "Mule Ear" 12 gauge.  The price is right and it functions like it should.  Check out the posts in the "Gun Reviews" forums.  There is a lot of info there on these guns.  This may be the way for you to go.

I went the same route with my persona.  As much as I love the Henry for its history and just plain style, the 1866 woulda been just the cat's meow back at the end of the war when it first came out.  I can imagine a couple years after the war, some ex-partisans who didnt quite settle down coming across 'em here and there and snatching 'em up.  I think if you really want to go period correct, you'd find a Spencer for the long range side matches too .............. Sorry, gettin ahead of myself.  I too went with the mule ear SxS, one of the Russian ones.  Not a bad little gun.  Quite heavy for its size and it absorbs the recoil very well.  I still want one of the '87 lever action shotguns.    I dont care if it fits the character lol.
