Contemplating Joining Up

TIZWIN

A big hello to my new pards.  I am new to CAS, even though I've been interested in frontier history and shooting for over thirtyfive years.  I get the impression that NCOWS is a bit more concerned with history than SASS.  Problem is, I don't believe there's much NCOWS presence where I live, outside Bangor in central Maine.

I'm very tempted to join, if only to get copies of "The Shootist," but I may be a lone ranger in this neck of the woods.

IMHO, the magazine alone is worth the cost of membership.

But, all you need to do is find two other folks with the same interests, and start a Posse!

After talking to you via e-mail I think this is the place you want to be, even if you are a SASS member. If you can locate some like minded individuals in your area to form a posse, just think of the looks of bewilderment your group would get at your local SASS outing, they probably wouldn't have a clue.

Your posse doesn't have to own a shooting range to be an NCOWS sanctioned posse. All you have to do to qualify is have four NCOWS sanctioned events a year (correct me if I'm wrong here boys/gals), and these could be something as simple as a reenactment, for your posse, or for the public in your area...Hope you take the plunge....

Will Ketchum

Welcome to our forum.  I think Maine would be a perfect place for a NCOWS posse.  The area might not be in the "West" but it sure is full of neat history and many a Westerner came form Maine.

TIZWIN

Many thanks for the warm welcomes and encouragement.  Though born in Bangor, Maine, I've actually just moved back here after living in Los Angeles for almost thirty years, working in the movie business.  My wife and I have come to Maine to care for my elderly mother and start a fresh chapter in our own lives, away from the harsh demands of city living.  But I do miss the West.  My wife is from Texas, and while we were in SoCal, whenever we could, we'd bug out for the mountains or the desert.  I hope to become involved in CAS at some point soon.  I'm building an armory and an outfit, but my free time is limited due to the demands of caring for my Mom.  I will join NCOWS if only to be in a fraternity of historians, though I doubt that I can spare the time to fullfill the requirements of a new posse.  But who knows what the future might bring?

Thanks again to my new friends.

TIZWIN, sorry to hear about your Mom.  Family always must come first and I commend you for making her you priority.

You can learn a lot right here and I look forward to your posts.

I was a SASS and NCOWS member for several years and only able to shoot once or twice a year because of my work schedule until I retired.  It just made the shoots I could attend that more special.

Welcome, Tizwin!

Like Will, I'm a SASS and NCOWS member (I prefer the company of the NCOWS folks) who doesn't get to shoot much.  You're welcome to join us any way you can!
