A comparison

Went out shooting with some friends yesterday. We brought along all kinds of stuff, from a P-53 Enfield, to '73 Winchester and even a couple WW-II rifles. We mostly shot Old West and Civil War before the rain moved in. Lots of fun!

This weekend we were struck by one comparison, which seems odd in retrospect, since between the group, we have about 60 years expeience with shooting old guns.

Anyway, here's the question; Which old rifles are about 45" long, weigh around 10 pounds, hold 8 rounds of ammo, greatly increased the soldier's firepower and arguably turned the tide of more than a few battles. The picture below shows the answer.

Now that is weird....I have exactly the same pair sitting together in the closet and I've made the same comparison!

How true.  I too, have both, but I never considered the historical significance.  I always considered the M1 as probably the greatest battle rifle ever, but so was the Spencer in its time.
