Anyone have a set of instructions for one of these things? I think I figured out how to put it together, but, I have no idea how to "calibrate" or adjust it.

The 4500 instructions are quite different.

Anyone care to send me a scanned in copy of the user's guide?

I got the press for a VERY reasonable price including S&H.

I just need to get a few sizers and top punches now. (.457", .452", .377", and .358")

I plan on using it for Felix lube with smokeless and Pearl lube with BP.
(yeah, I know swapping lubes is a pain...)

Howdy DW,

I  have a Lyman 450.  If your Lyman 45 is similar, I  can help.  Otherwise, hit the Lyman web site and see if they have a PDF file you can downloas and print out.

I'll do some lookin'.

Pearl lube should work just fine for smokeless, I use my El Paso Pete's magic bullet lube fer both.

Got both my lubrisizers used. One is a 450, the other is an RCBS.  I don't recall any trouble getting them goin'.  I keep SPG in the Lyman, and RCBS green stuff in the matching green press.

The only caveat!  Don't keep usin' the Lyman if it gets stiff to use.  It could mean that you've run out of lube.  If you persist you can easily pull the bottom out of it.  If you do, you have to call Lyman, and order the parts to re-build it!  This is from first hand experience.

Well, I got the old lube out of the Lyman #45.

I had to heat it up and then pulled the bottom screw out and the old lube stick (or what was left of it) fell right out after melting a bit.

It must have been either really dry or really hard for a lube.. whatever was in there.

Anyhow, how do I go about filling the thing with lube and then getting that lube onto the bullets?

Here is how I "THINK" it works:

1) mount it back on the table
2) fill the lube resivoir with stuff (either sticks or pour the goop in)
3) place the cap back on it and screw it down
4) screw the lube cap down well enough so that lube begins to work it way into the sizing chamber
5) every time I want more lube, ratchet the screw some more

So, here are some followup questions:
1) Do the bullets go in nose up or nose down?
2) what the purpose to the threaded bolt under the sizing chamber?
3) what appears to be the top punch or such is held in only with a set screw...is this enough?

A set of instructions would be VERY nice...

Texas Tall

Hey there DW,The bullits go nose up so make sure the top punch suits your bullit or it will deform the nose.
The bolt under the chamber has a knurled lock nut and you adjust this to suit the depth of the bullit,so you just size down before it tapers to the nose and gets lube into the groove or grooves.
I make my own lube in old lube stik tubes with a screwdrver through the centre to slide down over the centre screw, but I have heared of guys pouring lube in and letting it cool off in there.

Hope this helps you, regards............Texas Tall. ;)

One l'il trick ya might find helpful............

Mine are mounted in an unheated garage.  This time ah year the lube gets a touch hard 'n don't wanna flow.  I don't have a heater on either one.  What I do is warm up the body with an old hair dryer.  Works like a charm.

All,

I finally figured it all out...

Sizing body goes in the big hole.

top punch sits face down under the top ram. (need to order a few top punches tonight)

Lube goes in the cavity and the whole thing gets compressed each time you need to lube a bullet.

I found a neat trick from another forum.

Take apart one of those $5 "candle heaters" for smelly jars of wax candles and use the heating element under the base of the sizer sandwiched between a couple of pieces of alum plate. On the "high" setting, it should warm it righ up round 100 F.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Well, one last update...

I got it all working...finally!!!

I got a top punch that fits my Lee bullets well enough. I found a neat trick for getting "custom" designed top punches.

Take a larger #424 top punch and take a bullet you just cast. Put a nice healthy coating of nail polish or model car paint over the top.

Let it dry.

Place a healthy amount of JB Weld goop in the #424 top punch and place it back into the sizer.
Place the bullet in the sizer and carefully press down so that the bullet nose and top punch are seated together, but, NOT IN THE SIZER BODY!!!

This will need to sit overnight. Once done, you now have a 100% custom top punch for whatever bullet you need.

I melted up some felix lube first and got that all working. 1/4 turn will fill a longer bullet with 2 healthy lube groves.

SPG, Pearl lube, and Lyman Gold hardly need any heat at all. A bout 5 minutes in front of the hair dryer (until I get my heater system built) is all it took. (its about 70 F in the basement...VERY well insulated)

That little Lyman #45 is just about right for what I do. If I find another one, I'll get it setup for BP only.

I mounted it on a strap of 2x4, which is then bolted to the loading table. It don't move at all now.

Thanks for everyone's help on this issue.
