Debating on a factory Richard's Mason 51 navy or 60' army conversion and wonder how well they handle black powder fouling?

Thanks,
Will

Well I'm considering a factory conversion, and I'm considering converting an 1860 to a richards type 1.

Thanks

Where are you going to get the 1st Model conversion ring?  ???

P.S. Any Colt style conversion handles BP well with lots of lube on the cylinder pin.

FCK,

Your are just not bored enough(as you stated in other posting) ;).  You need to be like me 2 1/2 yrs out of work, then a full time job that lasted only 1 yr.; and now out for 6 mths again with no good leads.  :(:'(  So what do you do?  You start making a Richards 1st Model on a Euroarms 1860.  This gun measures out exacting to an original.

But do it my way, with no lathe or mill. :o  Just a Dremel tool; several smaller cutters for the Dremel; lots and lots of different shaped files; correct size reamers; manual hand drill and power hand drill.  Oh and everything is made from scratch.

Getting no where slowly but having fun. :D

Oh, Yes, doing this in the evening after having looked on internet job boards all day.  Releaves the stress of no employment.

Now that takes a lot more patience than I have!  I'd love to see pics of it.

Actualy I'm thinking of buying the cylinder from VTI gunparts for the richards mason and milling my own breach ring.  Acourding to Cimmeron the RM will interchange with originals, if that's true the cylinder should match.

I actually had a Richards 1st Model ring as used by Kenny Howell. He sent it to me. One catch: is was the rough casting. No firing pin, etc. I sent it back as it was out of my league to finish let alone fit it. Mind you this was years ago before any conversions were available.

Would love to get my hands on that, it''d save a ton of machining!
