In a nutshell, Pinnacle and APP are about the same.  Pinnacle has some charcoal dust added to make it look more like BP and it may help the clumping that APP does. (the clumping doesn't hurt, just break it up)
Feel confident using either one, buy what's cheaper or more readily available.

Kid, both APP and Pinnacle are the same in that they are ascorbic acid based powders.  On the other hand, they are not the same.

APP is highly corrosive to metals and Pinnacle is not.  This is based on independent chemical testing that was done in 2005.  Go with Pinnacle - it's the closest sub to BP and does all the things BP does.

I've used APP extensively, main match arms for 3 years, and find it only is reactive to brass.  That's why I give my brass a bath in 50/50 vinegar and water, if I'm using APP.  I left my rifle uncleaned from the last shoot in Nov. until just before the season opener in April, and the bore wiped clean with a couple of wet patches (water), no corrosion.  No corrosion on the steel of my C&B pistols either, and I often go a week or two on those before cleaning.

Not tired APP but so far am liking Pinnacle.  Not as much 'heat' to it as 777. 
Even has black dust that acts just like charcoal in real BP - gets over everything.

I've shot a lot of APP and I recently switched to Jim Schokley's APP Gold. It seems a lot less Hygrsopic than regular APP so far no clumping at all and I've tested a few cases, instead of the normally required vinigar and water mix  all I did after shooting was wash with dish soap and water no chemical reaction to brass, so far that is. The APP gold also seems not to build up and bind as quickly as the old/regular APP. As always your milage may vary but the APP Gold seems firearm friendler than smokeless and boy does it smoke!!!

I have seen it written that APP Gold and Pinnacle are the same. Do you know if this is true?

I was talking to the APP rep at EOT and he told me they make Pinnacle for Goex...I picked up a case of Pinnacle and it seems to work very well and plenty of smoke.  I had shot APP for years and find Pinnacle a little hotter but not very much.

Per shoots I have seen, like Mike Cumpston's book, the equivalent load of APP, ie, 28 grs BP, 28 grs / volume, APP about 400 feet per second less. Is a sick powder and it stink.

it ain't the same as BP in any way.

It is corrosive, as is Pinnacle, as is bad BP. Good BP is not as corrosive, as the Pottasium Nitrate is cleaner, less Chlorates.

Regardless, cleaning should not be too much of a chore. I like cleaning my guns after shooting. If you don't, you should go back to smokeless.

I know you're not gonna, but cleaning takes a heck of a lot less time than the shooting did. Just make sure the water's hot, and if you wanna use soap, any kind will do.

Pinaccle is made by APP co. maybe a little better screen sifted for size uniformity ..probally like the APP gold .
