Grapeshot

It's been over six months since I last asked about the GAF Medal.  What is the Status of it now?  Are we going to see another run of them so the members who do not have them will have an opportunity to purchase them? ???
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

Five days have gone by and no one but Steel Horse Bailey is interested?

Me too, I thought someone would have come up with some info by now

Dr. Bob

IIRC, Gen. Scout is getting the GAF Medal design copyrighted.  His wife is in the copyright field.  The medals cannot be produced until the copyright is secured.  Since this is a volunteer orginization, work has to come first.  The goal is to get the medals made at a significantly lower cost.

Grapeshot and others-

The copyright paperwork has been submitted and now we have to wait for 3-4 months for the approval.  I sent it in about a month ago, just before my surgery.  I'd mislaid the package while our house was being replumbed and was able to find it, and submit it, before I went under the knife.  In many ways, I felt like I was trying to file my income taxes - the instructions aren't the clearest - at least for our requirements.

My apologies for responding to this topic so late.  I found that I was trying to do too much too fast after surgery and I had a short relapse.  Consequently, I cut back on everything, to including using the computer.  Time to catch up.

After conversations with my lawyer wife, who has worked with copyrights for over 20 years, I don't expect we'll have any problems, so I'll work with Pitspitr to begin working on getting our medal into production again.

Thankyou, Sir.  I hope your recovery is swift and without complications.  Maybe we will meet in the near future.

Than you for the update, Sir!  Those of us who haven't been around long enough to have gotten one of the first issue will continue to wait anxiously for the opportunity to again acquire a GAF Medal!

And my Heartiest Best Wishes for a speedy full recovery!

All this talk of medals reminds me that I must get around to having appropriate mounts installed on a number of reproduction Victorian-era British medals I have accumulated.  Would add a degree of downright splendiforousness to the chest of Maj. Robson when in Dress Uniform, dinna ye think?

I wouldn't wear the Victoria Cross, of course, but the various campaign medals would fit the persona nicely ... then, as now, one was awarded such medals merely for having served "in theater" (even in an office somewhere) so wearing these wouldn't constitute a claim to have actually fought in any of the related battles ....  please, no wisecracks about appearing to be old enough for that to be a possibility, by the way ...  ::)

I should add that the Khedive's Star isn't a British medal, of course, but was awarded by the Khedive of Egypt to all British Army and Navy personnel who participated in the suppression of the Egyptian Rebellion of 1882 - authorized for wear only in conjunction with the Egypt Medal (blue/white ribbon) beside it ...
