My son-in-law got a Winchester Model 94 for christmas. He took it out shooting a couple of weekends ago. He said it shot real nice, but had some problems with the rear sight. He backed the adjustment screw all the way out to lower the sight but it still was too high and the screw was not touching the barrel. What can be done to bring it down where it needs to be besides wrapping a rubber band around it?

I will have to ask my son-in-law. I was not with him when he was shooting

Well, you could always use a taller front sight.

I had to do just that in getting my long barreled 94 to focus in correctly when I put in a flip up ladder sight in the rear.

Marbles makes the most "correct" sights.

I have some dove tails with "gold" beads that are designed for octogon barrles.

That's different,  Most rifles today come with front sights soo tall it's hard to get them zeroed beyond 50 yards.  I'm always getting shorter sights for my guns.  That rear sight may also have a small sliding insert with tiny screw.  If this is all the way up, might be the problem.
