Got my two Remington 58s with the 5 1/2-inch barrels from Cabelas today. No chance to fire them yet, but I am very pleased with fit finish and triggers. it is astonishing how lively the shorter barrels feel in the hand, and how compact these revolvers are. Can't wait to make some smoke with 'em after I tear them down, clean them up and relube. Next thing is to make my holsters.

Congrats, Bill. You'll have fun with 'em I'm sure.  ;)

If you like the feel of the 5 1/2 wait till you handle a 4 3/4" '58, I was very pleased how  my gunfighter turned out.

I had to cut the bbl because of a screwup at the factory tor some where that cause indentations at the sight and rammer stop locations, clamped in a vice or done at the factory I don't know, but the marks in the rifling were mirrors of the dia.s of the sight and the rammer stop. So I whacked 2 inches off and didn't like my first attempt to dovetail the rammer stop, (it was ok but it didn't suit me) so I cut her back again to 4 3/4". WOW what a difference. Now if she'll shoot....find that out tomorrow.

You have a picture of that 4 3/4" pistol you can post, Charlie? I'd love to see it if you do. 8)

Well marshall it isn't finished yet (refinished that is).
Here it is about an hour ago. I have to refinish the bbl end and rammer stop and file down the front sight after I shoot it tomorrow. but she handles like a dream. now to do a bit more on the action. and possibly reshape the trigger to make it straighter and maybe the hammer... this never ends does it?
Hope you all like this.

If you cut it back this far you have to hinger the cylinder pin.

Knowing what I do now after about 25 different C&Bs over the years, if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably start out with a pair of SS or blued 5.5" Remingtons only mine would be Ubertis. They are a little lighter and the grips feel better to my hands. Yer gonna have fun with yours. I'm jealous but too cheap to go out and get another pair of Remmies. I already own 4 and used to have 2 others.

I really like the hinged cylinder pin. That's a great idea. I may have to cut one back that far. What fun.

Actually the cylinder pin and the rammer are my prototypes(mock-ups)  so I can shoot the gun tomorrow. I'm working on a nicer hinged pin idea and nother rammer, (I hate niggling little mistakes) and I have a Navy rammer on order for this one,  All my gunfighter '58's will have the same profile rammer...a tish longer, I'm wondering how much I can take off the top of the sight, The sight and the rammer and stop are the detriments to a fast draw and the pistol hanging up in the leatherThat is why I want the whale to the stop or close.
The hinged Pin is not my idea, but came from the nickle plated shorty on the gallery page from the UK?

A pair of 5 1/2 Rems may be in my future...have to wait and see how the next paycheck turns out. <hehe>

That, or do a R&M conversion on a colt. (sorry, not trying to pick a fight...just that how many Rem58s do I need?)
