Couple of nice ones there!

QuoteMy hunting load is 60 gr of 3f

Took me a while to catch that ;) Must be a 45-60 then!

I rebarreled my short rifle in 45-75.  And took a lesson or two from Dusty to make it a button mag, 24", 45-60.   King got the short 45-75 barrel and mag tube.  Thank you Sir!  Life has gotten in the way since and have yet to shoot anything but paper with it.  But it is here, with 150rds of new brass, 10# of 3F, a couple boxes of 350gr lead bullets and 5K mag. rifle primers.  So I should be set for the next herd of buffalo coming through  ;D

So I found out this year that the 45/60 is legal to hunt with here in Illinois. This is the 2nd year we have been allowed to use rifles in this miserable state. Single shot only, straight wall cartridge. Leverguns (or any rifle) can be used as long as it is rendered a single shot. I put a wooden dowel in the mag tube of my Chief Crazy Horse 94 in 38-55 last year but only saw a squirrel. Next year will be taking my Short Rifle 45/60 for sure!
I stopped by the check station last week, hoping the game warden was there to ask about the legality of the 45/60, because as usual, it wasn't listed on the list of legal calibers. He wasn't there, naturally. So after 15 minutes of the check guy's going through the website, (which I had done already several times) they actually called the game warden and I spoke to him personally. These people are not gun guy's at all! They were so fixated on the fact that my cartridge in hand said 45/70 headstamp that they couldn't grasp what I was telling them, that it is a 45/60, not 45/70. It's cut down! It finally clicked in the game wardens head after many minutes of explaining and he said good to go. So good to go next year!
