Serial number 17611.  Seller said it was issued to Co  K  11th Michigan Volunteer Cavalry but did not send the documentation.  Can someone please look up this serial number to verify?  Still has 22-inch barrel - sleeved to 56-50 - Springfield Armory cartouche.  It's either missing the Stabler cutoff or never got one?  Looks pretty nice.  I cannot figure out how to reduce the size and quality of the photos to get them on here.  Will try again tomorrow.   Thanks!

In the serial number records I have, there is a gap between 17572 and 17636, which were issued to two different Michigan regiments, and yours falls in that gap, so the serial number disclaimer would apply.  Perhaps you can entice the seller to provide you with the documentation.

And keep working on those photos--everybody loves eye candy.

Thank you for looking.  I've contacted the seller.

Not very good photos.  Can anyone determine from the second photo if this carbine had a Stabler device?

No Stabler on the Spencer

Here is what you are looking for, a Stabler Cut Off lever
when planets align...do the deal !

Major, thank you for responding.  I know there isn't one in the photo but was there one?  I've read in some ads where they write there was a Stabler device.  How do they know that?

Hello, John:
The Stabler tab was attached with a screw, and also had a rotation limiting screw. So if removed, there would be a hole, screw or plugged hole for the movement limiting screw. Smiles.

U.S.M.R.

As an aside the 11th Michigan Cavalry was absorbed into the 8th Michigan Cavalry at Pulaski, Tennessee July 20th 1865. The 8th was mustered out at Nashville, Tennessee on September 22nd 1865.

Thank you U.S.M.R. - that's good to know.  I haven't started my research yet.  The seller got his info from a floppy disc he bought ages ago that isn't easy to access anymore.  Sent an email to SRS since I'm a subscriber asking him to check.

Just out of curiosity can you please tell me the two different Michigan regiments?  Thank you!
