Replacement Lever Screw

I would like to get a replacement, new-made lever screw for my M1860. The original has some wear to the screw head and id like to preserve it the best I can without continuing to bugger it every time I clean the block. I found this guy on eBay selling new made tool steel screws, and wanted to see if anyone else was using them before spending that much on a single screw

I don't have an original, and have been told by gunsmiths that work on original Spencer's, that the screw threads are "old style". 

If a supposedly close enough, "modern" American or even metric thread pitch is used, the original threads can bend and distort. Not saying this fellow's are wrong, just suggest you be sure.  A modern replacement should finger screw into place without resistance if block and lever (pressure) not involved. Please let us know what happens. Smiles.

Lodgewood says it has an original for sale.  They call it a "Spencer Block Pivot Screw."

If you're looking for a repro, the guy on ebay seems to make a lot of odd screws, so I would be surprised if he fudged on the thread pitch.  Of course you could always ask him for details.

It's a good idea to preserve the original lever screw on your M1860, especially if it's showing wear. Replacement screws made from tool steel can be a great choice as they are generally tougher and more resistant to wear compared to original vintage screws.
