was at the NE Antique Arms show in Sturbridge Mass and the guy at the Smith and Wesson table was saying that S&W is making Schofield's through their Heritage Series...Is this true?? I think not...Don Mundell was away from the table at the time.

nice show, but very high prices..

S&W did make a Schofield but that was back in 2000. I have one and am going to sell it because it is impossible to shoot with black powder. If you're asking about something new S&W is doing then my apologies for thread drift.

Regardless of what S&W claimed when they brought out the 2000 Schofield, it is NOT a true replica. The original had the short cylinder only capable of accepting the .45 Revolver Ball ammo, with the frame long enough to have accepted a cylinder capable of taking the .45 Colt's Revolver round, but the rear end of the barrel brought back to meet the front of the cylinder. I have no proof, but I believe S&W originally tried to make the Schofield to take the Army's Colt's round, but the gun wouldn't stand the original 40 gr. BP rounds. (As a matter of fact the original Colt's SAA wouldn't stand that heavy a charge, which is why the Army changed the charge to 30-35 gr. of BP and eventually a 230 gr. bullet.) That was why S&W made their original Schofields with the shorter cylinder and created the shorter round.

When S&W brought out the commemorative M2000, they shortened the frame so the guns couldn't be fitted with a cylinder capable of handling the .45 LC round, which Uberti did with their repros. With modern steels, there really is/was no problem doing this...with reasonable loads, of course.

Is the new Schofield a duplicate of the M2000 with the shortened frame, or a true reproduction based on the original configuration?
