Hi Guys, just wondering if anyone has received the spring 2024 edition of Guns Of The Old West Magazine yet, seems they behind in mailing?

:) bob  ;)

Nope.  Not behind at all.  The parent publishing organization for Guns Of The Old West went BUST.  GOTOW is now GONE.

Professor Marvel

Gone under, late 2023. Outdoor &. Firearms related spinoff sold to a third party, who shut down everything that wasnt "soft porn" ie swimsuit issues.

Paper magazines are almost gone now, except labors of love like muzzleloader magazine &  some  independant mags...

wow, didnt know that, thanks, i guess i would be waiting a long time, i think i just renewed it last year...

Major 2

I subscribed many years, when Harris had it, they sold to the Conglomerate.
They in turn, published it several years, however several features and writers were dropped, to my dislike.
So, I did not renew when my subscription ended Winter of "22".

I have the Winter 2024 issue on Overdrive/Libby. Through your public lie berry, its free. Now whether there   will be more is another question. The publisher is ATHLON OUTDOORS.

It's sad news indeed. I have them going back to their first issue.

Im curious when the first issue was printed?

Rube Burrows

Man, this hurts me. This is the one magazine that I have kept a subscription to for all these years.

The demise of paper magazineshas been a problem for several lustrum, often leaving paid subscribers high and dry.

Because of that, and the SAME DAMN article getting resurected evry 5-6 years, issues not getting delivered but promised over and over, and subscription reups being demanded each year even tho I had a five year subscription, I deepsixed all subscriptions and used this an an excuse to get out Of the house with SWMBO and visit a bookseller to buy the mags in person. If they did not have it, it had ceased to exist.

And yes, there are a few actual brick and morter booksellers remaining. But, one must bear the burden that inflation has hit everything, so a paper magazine is liable to hit $8 to $12 these days. But that makes one consider if one REALY wants it bad enough, to further add to the weigt of paper of the shelves going back to the beginning of the invention of papyrus ......

I believe I didn't renew my subscription sometime around 2020 or so. When they dropped Mike Beliveau and cut articles by Dennis Adler that was it for me. I was already getting PO'ed with the content. Too many repeat articles within a years time on the Mare's Leg Rifle, Cimarron's and Taylors 1873 Colt copies, too much aimed at SASS shooting, not enough on percussion and conversion revolvers. OK off my soapbox. I weaned myself off of GOTOW long ago and haven't lost any sleep.

They dropped Mike Beliveau, Dennis Adler retired as I recall.
They also dropped the old film memories/actor profiles; though I think that author passed away  :-\

Repeat articles, and articles more modern stuff beyond the old west scope.

Also, the drop from 6 yearly issues to quarterly, with a price bump up.
I know magazine ads are the life's blood, but I found, I was paying for a billboard rag. and little content.
I dropped it in 2021 I think...

:) PLUS ONE for Maj. 2  :(

Really use to look forward to GOTOW.  Then the rag went to Quarterly, the writing really began to suck, the content went into the toilette, just was no longer worth the outlay and chasing it down.  I missed what it was.  I won't miss what it became.

I just read / looked through it at the rack at Walmart the last number of years.

And don't forget, thank you very much, it was also required the replacement had to be trained or there was NO viewing, and NO invitation to the Christmas Party!!

RoyceP

I renewed my subscription to GOTOW then they folded. Guess I am out the renewal.
