Someone had mentioned possibly using .45ACP to fit 10 rounds in a Spencer. So I sent an email to Taylor's asking about the possibility. Here is the emaol back from them.

Good afternoon,

We have never tried this.  However, when the follower is pressed to the rear of the magazine tube, there is 10.5 inches of available space.  Teh standard length of a 45ACP bullet is 1.273".  So it will not allow 10 rounds of 45ACP to be loaded into the magazine tube.  It is a great idea for sure, but is not doable unfortunatly.  I hope this answers your questions.  Please let me know if I can help you further.  Have a great day.

Thanks,

Ah My Good Deacon

If one is to play "what if"
What if one trimmed back the .45 acp ?

What if one used the .45 GAP and shaved even less off?
Overall length   1.070 in (27.2 mm)

But since the "new" spencer is designed for a rimmed .45 colt I cant even
Imagine how this would work, let alone modifying the carrier/block/loaing thingy to
Accomodate a much shorter cartridge.

It would be like trying to run the super short aquila shotshells out of a remington pump.
A less than harmonious outcome.

:) Ah Yes My Grand Perfesser ;)

I have been known (on several occasions) to attempt modifications and changes that turned out to be non-players.  Of course, resulting in 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 pounds of fine steel going in the scrap bin.

Regarding the above, I can't remember ever addressing a query to an outside source for clarity of mission.  After all, what's the fun of jumping if you already know the result of the landing??  Burma Shave

I edit to add:  I'm aware this has absolutely no application to the OP or subsequent commentary regarding the Spencer Rifle.  Oh Well.  After all, it is Saturday Morning, no match, insufficient caffeine and I'm bored.  So There!!  Nanny Nanny Poo Poo

What happened to the "like " button?

Is it gone forever?

But so far everything else is better on the new forum software ...

I still say a 45acp round or that length is too short to feed in a Spencer.  Something would need to be modified or redesigned.  Possibly a talented 'smith could figure it out.

I believe it will be much quicker & easier & cheaper to bully the match directors into designing "Spencer-friendly" stages (read: max. 7 rifle rounds) than bullying Chiappa into designing a ".45 ACP-friendly" Spencer...

I went on seek.  I must report, as you (probably) wern't able to find a "LIKE" button.  Looked everywhere.  Nope.  Nada.  Nix.  Nine.

It would seem we must simply indicate our "like" or "dislike" by spelling it out on the particular commentary we find ourselves on.  A tad inconvenient that.  Oh well.
