38-72

I have a project in mind and I want to ask what your thoughts and suggestions might be.
I've got a Ruger Vaquero Bisley 357 and want to end up with a 38-40 Vaquero Bisley.

I also have access to a Blackhawk 38-40 (adjustable sights). However, the Blackhawk sights will not work for me. And, I prefer the grips on the Bisley.

So, which way is the best to go?

1. Convert the Bisley by changing out the barrel and reaming 357 the cylinder out to 38-40 or just insert the 38-40 Blackhawk into the Vaquero.

2. Modify the Blackhawk by adding my Bisley grips and having the frame and sights modified so gun looks the same as the Vaquero.

3. Other options?

The 38-40 shoots a 0.401 cast slug.  It is actually a 40cal round.  Don't know why it wasn't
called a 40-38  ???

The original 38-40 could hold 40gr of black in ballon head brass hence the name. Although 40-40 would have made more sense. As far as the conversion in question, why not buy a 357 Bisquero and have it converted to 38-40 by a gunsmith?
