Apparently they haven't yet done the episode on the Mk II Enfield revolver they kept talking about ... at least a search didn't turn it up.   My Enfield is a Mk II, but in my view shares pretty well all of the faults of the Mk I that they talk about in this episode.

And I must say, in answer to the question in your post title:  "No, not really a good idea at all!"    I find the Enfield very awkward to operate ... and have long described it as a "Rube Goldberg type contraption". Having to load one round at a time through the side-gate is quite annoying with a top-break revolver, and the extraction system is downright bizarre! It did not last very long as the issue handgun of the British military ... although it continued as the primary pistol of the NWMP until 1905!

Although I've brought my Enfield to Musters, I haven't ever  competed with the blasted thing ... not even this past summer with my NWMP persona ... and my revolver is documented as having been an NWMP-issue handgun!  Rather than use it (... or my rather delicate Mark III Adams ...) I went to considerable expense and effort to acquire my Uberti S&W Russian in order to have a more functional handgun which fit the persona.

Design by committee is almost always a bad idea..........

As I recall, the camel has been called "a horse designed by a committee" ...  ;D

In looks maybe, but actually an amazing design!  Sort of like an SMLE.  Not much to look at, but works really well!

I've only seen one in the wild. Definitely a unique revolver. Too bad they couldn't have combined it with a Fosbery. Steam punk revolver for sure.

On the bright side, it is not a Nagant. . . .
In my book a pioneer is a man who turned all the grass upside down, strung bob-wire over the dust that was left, poisoned the water, cut down the trees, killed the Indian who owned the land and called it progress.  Charles M. Russell
