Here is a photo of my now assembled Gemmer style trapdoor Hawken.  I used an 1873 Springfield 45/70 trapdoor system, Green Mountain tapered octagon barrel and most of the rest of the components came from Track of the Wolf.  Stock is tigertail maple and is a left hander.  The barrel was glass bedded to be able to fit the tapered barrel.  It has one coat of Tung oil and will have several more. The stain was concocted by the gunsmith that fit the barrel to the breech.  It has not been fired yet.  I really enjoyed building this rifle.  Lots of work, but well worth it.   If anyone wants to gab about this rifle you can contact me at:

Very nice!  I have always liked the look of the various Gemmer conversions.

Much obliged gents.  Actually there are plenty of Springfield parts out there.  Some on EBAY, some elsewhere.  Some kinda expensive, but you get what you pay for.  Building this was lots of fun.  shooting it will be even more.
