Hey folks!  Just a follow up to my earlier post about the price hike of C&B pistols at Cabela's.

I sent an email to Cabela's a few days ago expressing my displeasure about their price increase. Well,  On Monday I got a phone call from a Manager (Mr. Horn) at the Cabela's in Owatonna, MN.  He was extremely nice and quite apologetic about the price increase. I also found out that he was a blackpowder rifle shooter himself.  Mr. Horn  basically said that the increase was due to an increase in their cost for the product; Due mainly to the higher transportaion/fuel costs and fluctuations in the dollar/euro relationship. He was very thorough & acceptable in his explanation,  in my opinion.

To make a long story shorter,  I went to Cabela's after work today to buy a Remington; It was still signed in the store at $159.99,  so I got it for the old price. And I had a $10 Cabela's gift card to boot!

It gets better;  My ported Kirst Konverter dropped right in and is timed PERFECTLY in my new Remington.  Looks like I'll be spending my day off tomorrow cutting a loading channel in the recoil shield on my new pistol (shudder!).

I just wanted to let you all know about the excellent customer service that I recieved from Cabela's.

Be sure to tape the completely dis-assemble the pistol.
Tape all the frame and bbl with a couple or more layers of either masking tape or Electrical tape so you don't slip and mess up the rest of the finnish. A point to ponder. the port aligns almost perfectly with the scooped out portion(reciol Shield) of the frame where you load a cap also use the pattern provided.

A Heads Up:
The port goes as deep as almost 1/8 inch of clearance from the cylinder pin hole(the same distance as the pawl of the conversion cylinder0. load the cylinder without the recoil ring and trace around the pawl at the port with a marker to see where the bottom of the port wil lie.  It is easy to see and measure from the cylinder side, but from the hammer side it looks like you have gone too deep(because of the hammer slot in the frame. You can insert the cylinder pin from the hammer slot to get exact measurements.(distance from port bottom to cylinder pin.)

I used the one with Dimemsions as I was porting for 44 Rem, I didn't need or want the large cutout, so I redrew my port on that pattern. The next one I do, I'll use the pattern as big as it is, then you have the option to shoot 45 LC or 44 Rem. and all you have to do is buy extra cylinders in the other caliber. the recoil rings that comes with the cylinder will work with both 44 Rem or 45LC cal. cylinders.  Pretty cool to have a "58 Rem that'll shoot 2 calibers.

I ported my frames in about 3 hours with a ratail file and no power tools.
Hope this helps John.

Thanks for the tips, Charlie. I'm about to cut into mine. The cylinder fits perfectly after a couple strokes with a file and the timing is absolutely perfect. Mine is a .38 so I may not need to cut as much out of the recoil shield. We'll see when I get into it.
