I have two very early 1882 Spencer 12 Ga. Shotguns... One is my Great-grandfather's which has no serial number, it's heavily engraved and has(had) a gold plated receiver... It was recently determined to be an early prototype by the Cody Firearms Museum... The other is Serial #643, which is a 1st Model, Grade A example...

My question is does anyone know what the "LD" means which stamped on the underside of the barrels on both examples... I have Roy Marcot's book and there is no mention of this mark...

I would also appreciate any information anyone may have on 1882 Spencer Shotgun Prototypes...

Sorry.. tried to attach photos but files too large...

Thanks!
