Got this from a friend. It's about making leather from plants:

Has anyone heard of this? I wonder how good something like this would work and hold up? I don't see making Holsters out of if but it was an interesting to watch.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

For garments and such, that looks like it would be great. I hope they're successful. It would be fun to get some to experiment with.

I have not seen any in person but i think this is the material made from cacti.   The olan is garments, bags and especially shoes.     I also believe it has a life expectancy of ~10 years

Vegan and Leather in the same sentence is Oxymoron.  "Leather" is made from the hide of dead animals (Everybody Knows That).  I don't know what the fabulous new product should be called, but it ain't "Leather."  Remember when Naugahyde was all the rage for Hot Rod upholstery??  That stuff wasn't "Leather" either.

But, but I saw the protesters on the TV complaining about all those Dead Naugas.

Yeah, I was not fond of the naming.  I do have to say that Vegetable tanning is not great on the environment, but manageable.    Chrome tanning like what is used for garment/shoe items is horrible for the environment.   the toxic aspect of the chromium is hard to manage, especially if they do not focus on appropriate disposal methods.  If this could replace chrome tanned, I would happily wear catcus leather shoes.

I just want to make sure any cactus material has been totally checked for any leftover spines.  :o ::)
But I do think they should call it cactus skin, rather than leather.  ;D

Wouldn't leather from vegetarian cows be from a vegan source? They don't eat meat.
