Just picked up a new 1878 at my favorite toy store. The wood & fit is excellent. A little stiff to open but figure that will ease up with a little valve grinding compound and a little polishing.

But I do have a ?. It came with the lighter springs. How do you disassemble it to install the springs & reassemble it?

Didn't you get the diagram and instructions?  Mine are at my cabin so I can't look at them.  If I remember right you just remove the screw in the left lock plate and you can take off both lockes.

The only complaint I had with mine is that the left trigger is so stiff that sometimes I have to check to see if it's cocked  :(  It is at the Smith's right now having that fixed.

Nope Will. All that was in the box was a larger front bead, two hammer springs,  & another spring ???, & an 8x11 color owners manual with a poorly done color parts list on the back, but no schematic.

I got the hammer springs replaced & the action spring out but I'll be doggoned if I can get the new action spring in.

Col., Have you checked your post on The Wire? There's a pretty good explanation there I do believe. There's a flat side to that thing and it goes forwards IIRC..............Buck 8) ::) ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Thanks pards, I got her all together & didn't have to take it to the smith. She's ready to go BOOM!! now.  ;D

Will,
I've had several folks asked for a diagram of the 1878.  If you have a copy of such, maybe we could work to gether to get it posted on the web.

You could either scan a copy or send me a hard copy and I could scan it.

Cactus Cris

I am fix'n to get me one real soon.  Are the orig. springs that strong?  Will get mine with them but maybe not use them.  Will wait & see.  Have a Spanish sxs now and is real nice but the drop on the stock is way off for me.  Have to put my nose on the stock to look straight down the barrels.  Not a good thing with my BP loads. ::) ;)

Cris the lighter springs did make a difference in cocking the hammers.

Marauder, I was at the cabin over the weekend.  What I thought was a diagram was the owners manual that Col. Riddles discribed.  Not even a very good picture in the thing.

Paper Chaser

Howdy, Pard.  Passed through your fair city last Saturday on my way home from my LONG trip.  I did wave but no one saw me! (LOL)  As for the hammergun, give our pard Nate Kiowa Jones a holler ( steve@stevesgunz.com ) I'm sure he can help.  I visited with him last week and saw one of those TTNs; really nice and I do like the closeness of the hammers.  Good luck.

 :) Howdy,

Just thought I'd add a little "word" for Nate!  PaperCahser is right on the button.  I bought a new "Bounty HunterII"  S X S, from Nate and had the action smoothed out.  This shotgun almost works itself, all I have to do is pull the trigger!  Well, almost that good anyway! ;D

Fare prices, excellent work, and done when he says it will be. Enough said.
