I am trying to repair a early S&W first model Russian with a broken tip on the trigger.I was hoping someone would have drawings of this part or could tell me the length of the tip to the center of the pivot hole on the trigger.

Major 2

A good chance Driftwood Johnson with have the measurement you seek , I suggest a PM to him.

I have an original Type 2  but that might not help though.

I think the the  sear length on the 2 model is the same as the first model. The difference is the early models have no notch for the cylinder lock

Blair

Herbert,

There are two types of the early Mod. 1, No. 3 S&W's.
The oldest (and hardest to find) uses a hammer actuated cylinder stop bolt.
Type two uses the most common trigger actuated cylinder stop bolt.

To my knowledge "all" S&W revolvers use a cylinder notch on the cylinder to lock the cylinder in place with the bolt.

My revolver has the hammer actuated stop bolt.I think booth model triggers will work in it ,the difference being the 2nd model has a slot cut in front of the trigger to fit  the  the stop bolt

Blair

Herbert,

The one I have is of the type 2 in .44 Russian.
The trigger only has a shelf on the front of the trigger to actuate to the bolt stop.
This seems to be standard on all Smiths after this adoption.
I do not know of this slot cut in the trigger in the earlier types for the bolt stop.
Sorry?

The slot I was pointing out is the shelf  in your 2nd model trigger,in the 1st model trigger there is no shelf it is the same shape but no shelf cut it just a smooth curve to the tip of the trigger otherwise the same,a second model trigger will work in a 1st model but not the other way around
