Hi,

Sorry to tell you there is no history for Burnside Spencers.  They did not see any action in the Civil War, but may have gone West or perhaps sold to other countries.

Hello there...I have acquired a 1865 Burnside made Spencer Carbine also,sn4585. It is missing the front sight blade, but the dovetailed base is still there. I am wanting to find someone who has a bladed front sight to give me dimensions and material(silver?brass? steel?).
Any chance yours has that sight?  thx for any help...Wolfdog in Arizona

ps...sure am anxious to get reloading but now hear 4D dies are still a year out from being available! Damn...you shoot yours?

Were in Arizona are you ? I'm down in Sierra Vista. I have 5 originals and shoot all but one of them. The one I don't shoot is a Burnsides made one that's to pretty to shoot and is serial number 181.
I had my heavy barreled Spencer out this weekend and was shooting out to 500M.

S&S firearms has a front sight listed for the Spencer that would solder to your dovetail base.
