Uberti Henry receivers milled for a gate?

I looked over briefly a "brass" framed Uberti Henry at one of the local stores today. The receiver had been milled with the cut per an 1866 loading gate. This cut was filled in with a matching brass piece. The fellow behind the counter says all Uberti Henrys come this way now. I find this hard to believe; has anyone else seen such?

I last saw an Uberti Henry several years ago. It had no such cut out. I recall a few "transitional" models have been made by Uberti, but this had no steel loading gate, just the brass filler piece.

Might be what you saw was the plastic film that they put on the '60 and '66 guns now at the factory to protect them.  There is a cutout for the loading gate.  The fine lines of the plastic cause an optical illusion.

The fellow behind the counter is both correct and clueless.  :)

Yes, I noticed there was plastic film on the receiver but didn't rub my finger over the "gate." I should have taken off my glasses and looked more carefully up close.  :-[  Oh well, at least I knew enough to question his explanation as to what I was looking at. Thanks.

By the way, the 24" Henry wasn't as nose heavy as I recalled. Maybe I need to get one...

Trust me, it is solid, and the plastic film creates the illusion that a piece has been fitted.  How do I know?  It fooled me too a couple years ago when I got a NIB Henry..  Dont feel bad!

KWK,  Yes, the Henry is JUST as nose heavy as you recalled.  Wait till you get one full up.  Fully loaded the Henry is REAL nose heavy.

I went back and tried that 24" Henry again. I must have eaten my Wheaties that morning; it seemed more nose heavy today. Neat looking rifle, though.

Now knowing what I was looking at, that "milled" area was clearly not so. :-[

It'd be fun to heft the 18.5" carbine Uberti USA currently has in their catalog.

      Greetings!

A couple of months ago, Taylors & Co sent me a list of non-listed Arms: a Henry Transitional in .45C was listed...
