;D  Awesome Professor...Glad i printed it all years ago and put em in a binder on my workbench...
Aye its been quite a ride aint it?

Bunk Stagnerg

Thanks Coal Creek Griff
My plan is to print and bind these both as soon as i get resettled and have a printer, binder, shop and bench.
Some time this summer this year the way things are going.
But thanks anyway.
Bunk

Thanks for all the work, professor.  Perhaps you should post the same on the pinned topic here:
https://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,63004.0.html

I had previously saved the files to my laptop.  Printing them out would be wasting ink because I'd never find it when I needed it.  :)

I have to add something to this conversation concerning the open top Colt type revolvers.  Has to do with the checking the arbor length compared to the arbor hole in the barrel.
You know....turning the barrel 90 degrees to the frame and pushing it on to check where the arbor length is.

Older guns that have seen a goodly amount of service tend to not let the arbor go in the barrels hole very far. It has to do with metal sorta moved or peened inside the arbor hole due to the gun being fired a good bit.

Putting it simple like the barrels arbor hole might need carefully smoothed some near the wedge slot hole for the barrel to slip over the arbor freely.

A round file or some rolled up sand paper carefully worked in the barrels arbor hole can free up the arbor slipping in the barrel.

Just thought I'd mention this for any folks wanting to turn the barrel 90 degrees to check the arbor length but can't get the barrel on that way.  You know ?..when the barrel goes on freely the normal way but  not going on turned 90 degrees to the frame. New guns don't cause any trouble but older guns can have a little bit of a problem.

Just thought mentioning this may be a little help to some Folks.

Oldgold

First post. That's the reason I came to this site. Great information.

Crow Choker

Howdy Oldgold  :)  Pettifogger's tutorials on the Open Tops and cap and balls contain a wealth of info for tuning. You can use it 100% or vary it according to your needs and experience in tuning revolvers. Check some of the info 45 Dragoon, Coffinmaker, riflee/rifle (same guy) and others have posted in the 'Stickey's' and back pages of the forum. Be sure to check out some posts posted by a former member called 'Mako' also, good stuff and info. Another back page former poster that went by 'Raven' (Jay Strite) was very knowledgeable with cap an balls and conversions. Check out posts by 'Hoofhearted', also-very informative. If you're more into cap an' ball and conversion revolvers, the Darkside, Gunsmithing, SCORRS, and STORM are your best bets for information, but the whole forum is interesting. If I've left anyone out that I should have mentioned, my apologies. CC
