Are there any factory conversions documented of 1851s of the squareback triggerguard variation?
Thanks for sharing information with me.
Pics will help.

According to The Book of Colt Fireams 3rd Edition, the 1851 Navy with the square back trigger guard was produced only in 1851, SN range 1 to approximately 1250.  The pictures in McDowell's Colt Conversion Book do not show any 1851 Navies with the SB trigger guard.

HEY LJW   ;D

How Are Ya?  The key consideration here is "Documented."  I cannot find anywhere where the deliberate conversion of 1851s wore Square Back Trigger Guards.  The production of '51s with Square Back Guards ended well before Colt was building conversions as the "initial" build.  So, there is know known documentation of Colt having converted Square Back guns.

We do know however, Colt would convert anything that was sent to them.  I would not be surprised to see a few Square Backs in some collections that were converted at Colt by request.  Don't quote me.  I'm not a true Coltist and don't have enough research material.

Thanks, TJ and CM: that's what I suspected, too.
If there exists an 1851 SB Navy conversion it would be one sent to Colt in or after 1871 by an early owner.
