Should be interesting.

Rumored to have Michael Fassbender, Jaime Foxx and Peter Dinklage signed on so far.

The original would be near imposable equal much less top...
Though Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge & We Were Soldiers were creditable....

I never heard of Michael Fassbender and Peter Dinklage or at least if Ive seen them did set with the name .
Jaime Foxx  ::)  seen his work , don't care for it.

The cast of the original will never be equaled ?  Holden , Borgnine , Ryan, Edmund O Brian , Ben Johnson and Strother Martin

The Coen Brothers did a great job with " True Grit "  remake  but as mater of course "Remakes" are lukewarm..

I tend to like Fassbender. Dinklage is mostly okay. Jaimie Foxx is kind of hit or miss for me. Gibson as a director is pretty solid. If these folks were signed on to do an original western, I'd be more excited. But a remake of one of the best Westerns ever made...eh, I'll give it a shot but that's about it. Hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

It's down to where I'm going to give any effort in this fading genre "Westerns" a fair chance.

The good news is I think there's a re-surging interest in the Western genre. the game 'Red Dead Redemption II' was commercially and critically very successful. I just think it'll take a little bit for the executives or what-have-you to see the success of the game format and try to bring that to the big or small screen.

I think we've seen the end of the old John Wayne style Western, but I don't think the genre is gone yet.

Will Ketchum

I guess I am in the minority. I like a couple of remakes as well if not better than the originals. Monty Walsh I really liked the Tom Selleck version better than the Lee Marvin one . And I thought the True Grit remake was fine.

Im with on True Grit
I think I have to say it a tossup on Monty Walsh  ...maybe with Lee on my preferred side

Waynes "Alamo" over Disney's version

as to Wild Bunch

My problem is ...I can't see any of today's actors besting  Wm. Holden , Ernie Borgnine ,Robert  Ryan, Edmund O Brian , Ben Johnson and Strother Martin

and the ones I could think of are way to old ? like  Gene Hackman he's nearly 90  :o

Maybe Sam Elliott   yeah... Sam & Tom Selleck I go see them ! course they are 75 & 74

Didn't catch any on those lists

Fassbender was in 'Slow West,' and I think he was one of the better parts of the movie (one of those movies that I liked when I first saw it, and I've slowly grown more 'eh' on it since then). He can do Westerns, but I don't think he's a solid fit for the Wild Bunch.

I'm a big Selleck fan but to me Lee Marvin will always be Monty Walsh.

Jackman definitely has the chops for a Western. Actually, the last X-men movie he was in ('Logan') took a lot of inspiration from the Western genre. It definitely earned its R-rating, but it was a fantastic movie.

Edit: Fassbender played a young Magneto. Some of those movies were underwhelming, but typically not because of him, in my opinion.
