I am very impressed with my new Taylor/Uberti 1873 cattleman single action 12 shot .22. The pros: right out of the box the action is smooth with a nice crisp hammer break when the no play trigger is pulled, and the cylinder locks up like Fort Knox on all 12 chambers when the hammer is cocked. The fit and finish is very good with better CC than my previous Uberti models.

The cons: there is no longer four clicks when the hammer is cocked. I am glad there is still a firing pin on the hammer instead of the transfer bar. I am wondering if they could not have added the safety notch on the hammer just so you could hear the click even though it would not have been functional. There is no cylinder bushing. Would have preferred one.

Overall, I think it is still an exceptionally well-made single action in .22 caliber made on the full size single action frame. I haven't had a chance to take it to the range yet but will soon.

I handled some at Cimarron a few years ago (standard hammer back then) and they did seem pretty nice.
