Star Model "B" and derivitaves.

Can they be used as Zoot handguns? Google tells me the B goes back to the early 1920s, so should be OK. I've picked up a BM I might like to use in the future. (Commander size/style B)

I've always liked those, I should probably get one while the importers still have a few(if they still do!). Sort of a slightly smaller, slimmer, 1911. Didn't they use them when they filmed The Wild Bunch, because of availability of 9mm blanks?

AIM surplus, JG sales and Classic all have them at $199. I lucked out and got a "Shooter grade" e-mail special for $30 less. (On line at the right time, 45 minutes later they were gone!) Very nice little 9mm, holster wear, but an excellent barrel. Classic also has extra mags for $20, best price I can find. (Gun ships with one)

Seems very well made, shoots to point of aim. All steel, makes the 9mm pretty tame in this size of gun.

My understanding was that the Star autos was reliable with 9 mm blanks so they were used for the all action shots while 1911s weren't reliable with .45 blanks so they were only used for the close ups.

The only problem that I see is that it's a 9mm. But that's just my opinion and I don't shoot blanks. As Vin Tanner tells Calvera, "We deal in lead friend."

Took the BM out to the farm today. Tore up a paper plate pretty good. It's clearly sighted for 124 grain loads, and handles steel case just fine.

All I have read on other forums says these don't much like 115gr loads.

I put a few magazines worth of 115s thru it. They all cycled just fine, but hit low on the target. The 124's are point of aim at 10 yards or so.

I picked one up at a local toy store today, was in there to pick up a holster for my CCW, and he had 2. One looked to have been refinished and some of the original markings were almost buffed off. Both had some nicks and dents in the grips, rust freckles on the sides of the trigger, and some finish wear. Also the CAI dot matrix billboard

I got the one that hadn't been over-buffed. Haven't shot it yet, just disassembled and put a few drops of oil in the same places I would a 1911. Maybe tomorrow.

Haven't shot it yet, but everything looks good. Lots of finish wear, but I expected that going in. I like how it feels in my hands. Thanks for the info re. the 124 grain bullets, it's much appreciated!
