Hi everyone,

I've recently had a Spencer rifle bestowed upon me.  I really don't much about it or a ton about guns in general, so I may not use all of the correct terminology.  I'd really appreciate any information you all may be able to give about the gun.  It has a serial # of 10835.  I believed it had a shotgun barrel attached, but I may be wrong.  I thought that because of the bebe sight on the barrel, as I've never seen a rifle with a bebe sight.  The barrel is smooth bore from what I can tell.

waiting on the experts... but it looks like you are right re: shotgun barrel added onto a carbine.

That's what I thought.  Weird, right?  Have you seen one modified like this before?

I'll check that out tonight, thank you!

Very nice, Supershootist:
Have watched lots of Ian's fine vid's.  Missed this helpful one.
Perhaps Herbert will view it and add his experience.

Cannot be sure, but to me:
Looks like an untapered nosed 1860 hammer.
Mid band has an inspector's letter stamping. Some of my orig's do, also.
So that band w/swivel could be original.
I see what looks like a parting line on the barrel about .5" from receiver.
Maybe threaded and chambered portion of original barrel was saved.

Pay attention to that soft voice in your head.
