While I was looking for one a .45 Colt I came accross a very nice Cimarron in .44 WCF.
How is the .44 WCF comapred to the .45 Colt?  I notices some of you here really like the .44/40.  Why?  I asume the .44 WCF is the same as the .44/40 correct?

St. George

In the Old West - the .44-40 Colt Single Action Army was called the 'Frontier Six-Shooter', while the .45 Colt was called the 'Peacemaker' in general parlance.

As a matter of fact 'all' .44's were referred to as 'Frontier' revolvers.

That said - the .45 Colt round is a straight case, while the .44-40 has a tapered case.

That's harder to reload - from the reloader's point of view - but great when chambered in a carbine or rifle, as they feed smoothly, thanks to the construction of the round.

Of the two - it's really up to you.

For better accuracy - the .44 Special has long been touted as being exceptionally accurate and was a favorite of Elmer Keith.

Many people like it because it was an authentic rifle cartrige and the 45lc wasnt. And since its convienent to have a revolver and rifle in the same chambering it makes sense. As far as how they compare a 45lc pushes a 250gr and a 44wcf pushes a 200gr. In a 7.5 barrel both can be loaded up to around 1000fps but 750-800 is more common.

Yes, the 44/40 is the same as the 44 WCF.  I personally prefer .45 Colt since it has better ballistics, is a straightwalled cartidge that is a lot easier to load for and is generally easier to find ammo for.  My 2 cents.
