Howdy gang
Can anyone out there tell me if the quality of the Pietta pistols has gotten better? I got a Great Western II from EMF around 12 yrs ago in 44-40. Accuracy was terrible with any load I tried in it. Got a copy of Kuhnhausen's book on the Colt single action, and started measuring.
Turned out, the cylinder mouths are around .005 - .006 larger than the bore. EMF did check it out, and ended up replacing it. That one no better.
Now, looking to replace it with .45 colt. Don't know if I should give Pietta another try or stick with Uberti.

I really don't know how to answer your question.  I really don't.

I don't know well you can shoot.  Or even if you shoot well at all.

In all the time I spent as a Gunsmith, I never personally saw a cylinder with throats 6 thou over bore size.  To have a throat 6 thou over, it would have to be bored thru without a throat.  Never saw that.

The Great Western II by Pietta has shown itself to be an excellent value for dollar and an excellent reproduction.  Better than what you had 12 years ago??  No clue.

I guess it's just sorta you pays your money and takes your chances.
