I am looking for a 45 ACP cylinder in royal blue for my latest purchase. I got a new premium single action that was labeled as having  the extra cylinder but when I went to shoot the ACP wheel I found it was 45 Colt, same as the one that was in the gun. I have a 9mm cylinder that I'll get rebored if need be but would like to keep for my 38.
Also the hammer spur on this gun is much lower than normal does anyone know about this?

Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve.

What a Bummer.  I don't remember USFA offering a "lower" hammer spur.  Maybe.  I would be more inclined to think someone has had the USFA hammer modified, or simply fit a Uberti hammer.

Same solution for your quest for a 45 ACP cylinder.  Give VTI Gunparts a call.  A Uberti cylinder will run just fine in a USFA with minor fitting.

The lower hammer spurs are not uncommon.  Long Hunter sold  lots of them with his guns.   USFA had them available too.   Work well, just kinda funny looking.

For the price, likely a VTI 45acp cylinder is the easy answer.

The purpose of those lowered hammer spurs was to keep them from blocking the "sight picture" when the hammer came to rest.  Some seemed to think that that fraction of a second, when you couldn't see the sights, was critical to accuracy  ???.  Go figure!

Part of it.  As the SAA is notorious making sight picture and follow through difficult.  But I'd think the biggest advantage of the turned down hammer (and lots of them available now) is for shooting one handed and thumb cocking.  Turned down hammers are a significant advantage to dualist and gunfighter classes for a faster time on follow up shots.

Thanks, Yahoody, for the additional information.
