Finally getting a M1917 Revolver

Pulled the metaphorical trigger and put a down payment on a Brazillian Contract S&W 1917. Looks a little rough, but I wanted it mainly for shooting and as a hiking/camping gun. Finish looks mostly good, a few scratches and such but nothing that alarms me. I think I might buy a spare set of grips that are a little less rough. On the whole, I'm extremely excited. I've been wanting a 1917 for some time now.

Anyone have any recommendations for good holsters, both historically accurate and good for more normal carry?

I have a bunch of Colt New Services and N frame Smiths, .45lc,.455s and .45acp. I like the half flap style holsters that I have made by S.Dolega & Co in Laramie, Wyoming. A strong side and a crossdraw. Also have a pair of open tops from him. They are very nice, quality holsters. It's been a while since I got them so I don't know if he's still working. Either manufacturers guns fit. Half flaps are a good compromise between open tops and full flaps which are bulky and the half flaps are historically accurate. Buy the way, thats a nice looking Smith you're getting. I use the same load for all my .45 acps as I do the .45 auto rim, 4.5 gr red dot with a 200 gr bullet. It works my 1911s and isn't too hard on your knuckles in a revolver.

Sorry, meant to follow up on this. Thank you both for the recommendations. Drydock & Ed, I believe that I've bought a Canvas belt from Wolf Ears Equipment. I think it was being sold on Buffalo Arms, but I'm not 100% positive. If it is Wolf Ears then I'll look into getting a holster from him. The belt is just top notch. I've also been looking into El Paso Saddlery.

Got the pistol and it's in good condition. It's got the odd ding here and there, but mechanically appears to be fine. Good bore and the action is smooth as glass. Taking it to the range on Friday to run some rounds through it. Just curious, is the S&W M1917 acceptable for GAF shooting? I recall the Colt M1917 is, but wasn't sure about the Smith.

The N frame smith dates from 1908, and is allowed in the Expansion Era Match, but not the main Victorian match.

Great, thank you kindly! I guess I'll just have to buy a bolt-action rifle to go along with my revolver. Drats. What a shame.  ;D

Believe it or not, my first rifle was M1917 rifle. It was a beautiful rifle, but the barrel was an absolute mess, and I eventually sold it. Loved it though. The M1917 is a fantastic rifle, in my opinion.

I have one as well. I believe that they are called Model 1937. A separate contract with Brazil but identical to the M1917.
