OK, another question!

The response to my first question was so great, I'll try another.
Is there a decent way to blacken brass? I tried the Birchwood Casey Brass Black on a backstrap a long time ago. It didn't seem very durable.
Is there some other, better way? It's for an Investarms Cabelas .54 Hawken Rifle.
Failing that, are there replacement iron parts available for the Buttplate, Trigger Guard, Patch Box parts, Ramrod Thimbles and Forend Cap? I suppose I could leave the patch box assembly in brass...

I pretty much leave the brass to develop its own patina especially from BP fouling. You could probably just smear a bit of wet fouling on the brass parts and it would  turn it a brownish black. I doubt you could get a durable, deep black/bluing on brass because it is a soft metal that wears with handling and would expose the underlying metal.

Track of The Wolf sells both brass and steel replacement furniture for the Thompson Center Hawken. I'm not sure but they might fit the Investarms Hawken as well.
