bought a used emf Uberti henry .45 colt m1866 rifle last weekend at the great falls gun show. serial no indicates a 1997 build date. right out of the gate it shot a clover leaf at 50 yds with my black powder loads. same loads a i have for my iron frame henry and ruger bisley. did the standard rear sight tune up which means squeezing/cold swaging the ears in my kurt vise and a crown lap. have never been able to get the henry to shoot this well, maybe because it has a huge chamber. the ol henry was my standard ranch carry gun, but i am in love with the yellow boy now. next i will regulate the sight for 100 yds.   another thing............i never seem to get the messy case blow back alot of people say they get with the .45, i load compressed 3f with a card wad and big lube bullet,  residue really is not any different than my sharps, rem. or ballard big bores. did any of these rifles come with a trap door style buttplate for the rods? i would like to put a set in butt.

First off I am glad that you found a good 1866 but technically it is not a Henry.  Yes, it has a lot of the same parts in it and the action works almost identical to a Henry, but there are some differences that make it an 1866 and not a Henry.  That said I have shot 1860 Henry's for more years than I can remember but mine were in 44-40 (with Black Powder).  All the other people that I knew that shot Henry's in 45 had a bunch of trouble getting them to group and after more than 24 rounds had the action start to get gummed up from the BP blow back when using 45.  I hope yours is the exception but either way they are a hoot to shoot.
