I am buying a Ideal Loading Tool #4 for the 45 Colt, in very good shape. I have many of these, and Winchester 1882 tools in all calibers, but this one is different. The mold on the front end of the tool has a small hole in the bottom of the bullet mold. Never seen that before and wondered if anyone out there has seem this and know what it is for. I first thought it was to make a hollow point, but they didn't make them in the old west. Any help?
Thanks again,
Reno

do you think J&B Weld would hold up to the temps of the mold if I used it to fill the hole in the bottom?
Thanks

now that I think about it I think JB is only good for 500 temp.

Hey Reno I have a 1884 ( same as 1882 ) in 40/60 cal. it also has a hole in the bottom of the bullet mould,,but whoever drilled it drilled it off center and at a slight angle  it was a bad ideal ( no pun intended ). The bullet mould is "not" the same as the lyman 200gr. mould's of today,,.  Set the mould on a flat steel or iron surface and pour lead in the mould,,,,,when it cools you have a pattern to work with ,,mic. make one on your lathe w/ the stem longer out the bottom ,,put back in mould w/clamp holding mould together "Tig " the stem to one half of the mould dress  down,,,,at least this is how I'm going to fix mine ( just as soon as I finish my other 9-12 other projects -lol-lol )

smoke'm if y'a got'm,,,,Hootmix.

Thanks Slamfire.  I am thinking of having a friend tig weld each side of the small hole with the mold open, then file and dress it up till it closes tight.
Thanks again,
Reno
