It is with sadness that I must report the passing of Sweetwater Jack, a member of the GAF and frequent member of the GAF Color Guard at SASS Conventions.

I first met Sweetwater Jack, aka Gary Hanson, on the CAS-L forum back in the early days before CAS City.  He joined the GAF in it's early days as well and usually portrayed either a Union cavalry captain as he had been a captain in the Army National Guard, or a naval officer as he had been in the Merchant Marine and also the Naval Reserve.  In addition to enjoying his company at several SASS Conventions, I went on three paddlewheel boat cruises with him with a group of CAS and Old West history enthusiasts all dressed in appropriate 19th century military uniforms or civilian attire.  Though we exchanged occasional emails, usually to swap sea-stories, the last time I saw him was when he married his high school sweetheart in 2015.

Obituary:  Gary Paul Hanson, age 83, of Grants Pass, died November 12, 2022 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass.  Military Funeral Honors will be provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard, and a Rifle Salute by the Rogue Valley Marine Corps League, on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Interment will follow at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
