My Rossi winchester '92 only holds 9 rds in the magazine, but most rifle stages are 10 shots. Is there any way a legal modification could be made that would allow that one extra round to slip in there?  (Oh, and money is a big issue here...I'm using the Rossi because I got it cheap.)

Howdy Tarheel
Have you looked to see if theres a plastic extenter in the magazine tube. I had one in my Emf 92.
I took mine out and I could load several more rounds.

The only dumb question is the one not asked or maybe "you guys play'n' cards' ?.

of course there may be a dumb answer  ::)

That was kinda what I was afraid of. Oh well, I guess I load one round on the clock... Hell they time me with a calendar anyway...

Try Schofield rounds. A friend of mine shoots those in his '66 with no problems. It may or may not work in the '92 but it's worth a try.

I have an original Winchester M'73 that has a barrel that was shortened to 17" (By others, NOT ME) and it has been converted to 45 Colt.  It also would only hold 9 rounds before I worked on it.  My fix may work for you, I am not familiar with the Marlin.  I took a little metal off both the muzzle end magazine tube plug and the magazine follower, both on the inside portion of these items.  I then took a few coils off the magazine spring so that when it was fully compressed it took up less magazine space.  Be careful not to take too much off the spring so as to not affect feeding.  You will have to look at how your rifle is built to see if this fix may work for you.

Try it, but I doubt it will work, the 92's tend to be very OAL sensative.

Tarheel,

In answering your question in my last post, for some reason I typed in Marlin instead of M'92.  Again, I am not familiar with the M'92 either and as Delmonico says, it may or may not work.

I was just trying to find a schematic for that gun, So here is a nother dumb question does Rossi fall into another Family Name, Navy , Rem etc.?

The Marlin I know you can trim the magazine spring, not sure on yours.

Yeah, that might be , that's why I asked if it would cycle 45 SCH.
the angled ramp may bone ya !
But by my measurement ,10 - 45 Sch will fit the same space , were 9 - 45 LC would be max.

The rounds used in 92's and clones are all almost the same length overall.  218 Bee, 25-20 Repeater, 32-20, 357, 38-40, 44-40, 44 mag, 45 Colt.  John Browning designed it that way.

Still being made  or not. Should still be able to find schematic to it in a on line search, and some where there is probably parts laying around for sale. I was curious on how it differs from a Win or Marlin.

Rossi is still making '92's. Imported by LSI, EMF and Navy Arms. Just not under the Rossi name. There's some variation between each importer's product, but they're still Rossi made. The take down ones from Taylor's are made by Armi-Sport(same company that makes their Sharps repros)............Buck 8) ;)
