B Western Rifle

Howdy
My wife has the notion to enter up as a B Western shooter this year. I gather that means she can't use her '73 rifle.
What is the rifle of choice for B Western?

Just getting into CAS and was thinking B-western as well.

How bout the Henry Big Boy? They have a model that is SASS approved...

as a shooter the Big Boy is just fine , with very good/excellent manufacture support...

as a CAS gun though, to much mechanical to over come to cycle quickly, They see use, but not by serious SASS shooters.

Think Toyota Venza (crossover) as a Prerunner $:-\$ nice ride, just not the best platform...

Go with the Marlin 94, drop in the Palo Verde Marlin Spring Kit $22.00 , and a 1 piece Firing pin about $30 and you will transform the gun.

A nicely tuned '92 short rifle isn't a bad choice either. The '92 is a bit rough around the edges as they come out of the box, but with some judicious rubbin-n-buffin and some springs, they can be a lot of fun. Give em a look too. If you give serious consideration to the Henry "Big Boy," do us a favor. Write the check to me. That way, at least ONE of us will be happy

The Henry Big Boy has gotten a lot of bad ink but I know several shooters who use them and are happy with their choice.

I have used a Big Boy in .357 at CAS matches and and I like it but, as the Major more or less stated that if you are an average CAS shooter out for a fun time, then it is a good gun but, if you are a gamer, it is not going to work for you.

My wife shot a Browning B92 in .357 when she first started CAS. After a while she became able to work the action faster than it was designed to go and developed a frequent stove pipe problem. We bought her a .357 Marlin M1894C and the problems ended.

"Stove Piping" in the '92 platform is a common problem when the guns are run fast, out of the box. The reason for it is the Cartridge Guide Rails are slightly too wide and allow the cartridges to "pop up." The problem can be cured by shimming the RIGHT side rail so the rails just touch the case.

With the rail shimmed, a spring kit, Some judicious rubbin-n-buffin and reducing the extractor a '92 can be run incredibly fast. If one isn't comfortable doing the rail shimming and the extractor, sending the rifle for a visit with Nate Kiowa Jones will result in a very fast '92 indeed. Oh, and the BL92 rebounding hammer needs eliminated.
