56-50 Available ?

Is Ten-X the only maker of 56-50?  I have not the equipment, as you Cowboy shooters, to produce a bunch of ammo.  It's easy to roll paper cartridges yanno...   Buying ready made ammo is a bit less costly than buying a press, dies, powder, mould, and a sizer.

Is anyone here willing to sell me some ready made ammo for pleasure shooting?  (Not sure if this is a no no question here so if it is you can delete that part Two Flints...)

A lee turret or single stage classic is $50 or so and the dies are $50.

After shooting 150 rounds, you will find that loading your own will pay for itself.

$90/50 -> $360/200

200 cases are $164
$120 for loading press and dies & s/h
$15/lb for Pyrodex "P"
$4 for 200 primers
$40-$50 for 200 bullets from some folks on this board.

$340-$350

I will shoot that in alone during a summer month.

Just as a follow up...

After the intial 200, and assuming you have a source for bullets and powder and primers...

I am estimating the "round rate" at

If I were to pay $.15/bullet and $.02/primer and $.10/powder, thats still less than $.30/round.

I would contact a local caster who will do "custom" batches and ask if you can provide the mould, will they case them for you.

Some casters will do this...some won't.

You might want to get in touch with some other local "casters" and offer to provide food and drink and pay for the lead/alloy if they willl let you "cast with them".

[I did this with a couple of shooters and we sat around with a pair of Lee 10 lb pots and cast 1200 rds of 44-40 .429 in just over an hour...one guy was casting, one was sizing, one was working another pot mixing alloy and then casting as well...all outdoors in 92 F]

Check into it at least...you might be surprised...

I found a source locally for Lead and alloy. $1/lb for lead and $4/lb for 50/50 lead/tin...my bullets run between 5-6 cents a bullet.
(assuming I get 17 or 18 from a pound of alloy)
