Hello the forum
The .44-40 fire formed to .45 Colt works swell with Gun Powder. The resized case mouth will allow the bullet to be placed on the powder charge then the seating die slightly compresses the powder and the crimp holds the whole thing in place. The crimp holds the bullet in the case so recoil won't loosen it and the powder prevents the bullet from telescoping into the case. For me, as Coffinmaker would say, "it works a treat".
If I can't get some ,45 Short cases loaded for my 1860 Henry the .44-40/.45 cases will be what I use in my recently modified 1866 Yellow Boy with positive slam down lifter block. That also "works a treat" thanks to Coffinmaker gun plumber extraordinary (retired).
