Here is a Hand of God rig recently made for my brother using a rust dye method. I changed the buckle from the original to a cody clipped corner and opted for nickle rivets instead of copper but otherwise true to the original pattern, also added a matching knife sheathfor him . Thanks to Will Ghormey for direction on the rust dye recipe.

Rossmaker, just plum nice.  I really like the color and the tooling looks great as well.

Thanks so much to everyone for the positive feedback!! :)  After a few sample tests I dipped the rig and it came out pretty good I am in the process of making another rig to dye. This time I am going to leave it a little longer for a darker shade but with more worn areas so we'll see how it goes. Thanks again to everyone for the great comments!!   :D  :D  :D

Beautiful rig! I'm planning to make one soon, but how to create that rust dye? Thanks in advance

Bruce....
I'm not positive if this is what Rossmaker used, but I'll chime in anyways...
Here's a link to Mr. Ghormley's method, and specific on the H of G holster...

Thanks Good Troy for the quick reply, I know that article very well, but there's no hint in how making a rust die.

Thanks for your help anyway

Think he mentions that he puts iron in a tank of water and occasionally moves it around/heats it up. I believe iron rusts pretty quickly. Some folks on here use Brillo pads and iron shavings.

I use steel wool. One of those big ones, 0000 grit. I spray it with carburetor cleaner and light it to burn off the oil. When cooled, I drop it in a quart of white vinegar but you can just use water to get the rusty water. Vinegar gives a rich, deep black. Rusty water will probably give more of the color you want.

Thanks for this precious informations, I'll give it a try!

Sorry, I should have re-read the article...I thought it mentioned steel wool as the source for the rust solution.
